CaseFile storage system

Matthew Hilton

Details

Matthew Hilton has created the CaseFile system that works as both storage and as a utility unit. The system is made up from semi wall mounted black lacquered steel uprights, solid circular crossbars and adjustable feet. CaseFile is available in a number of different configurations using horizontal components from standard shelving, a 2-drawer unit, a bureau or a media unit. All components come in veneered walnut. The 2-drawer unit has steel handles and the bureau component comes with additional vertical interior storage dividers and a drop down working desk. The media unit has sliding doors for undisturbed sightlines. This multipurpose system adroitly resolves many functional needs in one. Ideal for the modern changing space, where work, relaxation and leisure are all at play.

Designer

Matthew Hilton doesn’t believe in design movements, and he really doesn’t like the concept of design as a fashion. Rather, he thinks the design process is part of the evolution of any object through history.

Born in 1957, Hilton studied at Portsmouth College of Art and then at Kingston Polytechnic. After graduating he worked for Capa as an industrial designer and model maker. He then set up his own design studio/workshop in 1984.

SCP was the first manufacturer to produce Hilton’s work; SCP at the Milan Furniture Fair launched Hilton’s Bow shelves in 1986. Nineteen years on, SCP and Matthew Hilton continue to collaborate, producing seminal furniture such as the Balzac armchair, Orford sofa and Flipper coffee table to name but a few.

While continuing his relationship SCP, Hilton has rounded out his design portfolio for many other international manufacturers including CASE, Driade, Disform, Sawaya and Moroni, XO, Montis, Perobell, Authentics, Montina, Livit and Ycami.

2007 saw the launch of Matthew Hilton’s own brand of furniture. ...
